The Administrator Inpatient Nursing is responsible for the leadership and strategic oversight of the operational, financial, and clinical outcomes of the inpatient nursing units within the University of Virginia Health System.
The Administrator Inpatient Nursing collaborates with leadership and front line team members to fulfill the mission of UVA Health; which is to provide the highest quality of care to patients. This role serves as a visible champion of efficiency, quality, patient safety and nursing excellence within the medical center. The Administrator Inpatient Nursing is responsible for creating and supporting institutional standards of performance and ensuring proper resourcing of strategic and tactical plans to meet or exceed the standards. The Administrator Inpatient Nursing facilitates problem solving, communication, and education to support excellence in patient care delivery within the inpatient nursing units. The Administrator works collaboratively with all members of the inter-professional team to support and participate in Health System-wide initiatives.
Leads operations for the inpatient nursing units, to include setting and achieving goals and objectives leading the resolution of key operational issues.
Identifies strategic opportunities for clinical practice and efficiency/effectiveness in patient care delivery in partnership with the CNO, CMO and inpatient nursing and pulmonary diagnostics/respiratory therapies leadership.
Manages the performance of team members and leaders of the inpatient units, inpatient nursing departments, and pulmonary diagnostics/respiratory therapies, promoting teamwork between/among all clinical areas within the inpatient setting.
Partners with administrative and clinical leaders to develop appropriate measures with proper benchmarks that will be tracked and reported to improve care and operations.
Cooperates with and supports clinicians, departments, and School of Nursing and other schools to provide an environment for education and research.
Provides oversight for areas of responsibility and guidance/mentoring for the leaders of those areas. Determines the need for and priority of allocation of human, space, fiscal and material resources.
Provides leadership and oversight of the planning and implementation of new technologies to support nursing care delivery.
Collaborates with the CMO, CNO, and COO on appropriate allocation of beds and appropriate distribution of nursing and clinical team members.
Works collaboratively with the directors of nursing practice, education and research, and nursing business operations ensure adherence to nursing practice standards as well as key initiatives.
Ensures compliance with the Medical Center, University, State, and federal policies for all areas such as privacy, confidentiality, billing, etc.
Serves as a role model for the ASPIRE values of UVA Health.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from accredited nursing program is required. Master’s degree in Nursing or a healthcare related field must be obtained within four (4) years from date of hire.
Experience: Seven (7) years of progressive management experience within a healthcare organization demonstrating leadership, strategic thinking, and responsibility for operations.
Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Applicable specialty and/or administration certification strongly preferred at hire or within 3 years.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
