General Summary

The Department of Teacher Education at Eastern Michigan University seeks a highly qualified educator for a full-time 10-month, tenure track position in teacher education beginning in Fall 2021. The candidate should have a scholarly agenda and teaching experience related to field-based educator preparation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching, advising, and mentoring students at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The candidate will be expected to maintain a focus in teaching, scholarship, and service as well as collaborate with colleagues throughout the university and community. The candidate will be expected to teach and serve students on and off campus, in face-to-face, and in online learning environments. Candidates should have experience with school and community-engaged teaching and learning approaches, university-school partnerships, and a commitment to developing and fostering relationships with school communities to support field-based teacher education.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between EMU and the EMU Chapter of the American Association of University Professors, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in one or more of the following or closely related areas: Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Psychology, and Educational Technologies completed by date of appointment from an accredited institution.
  • An active research/scholarly agenda and accomplishments related to the appointment.
  • Prior teaching experience in a P-12 school in the U.S.
  • Interest in teaching at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Scholarly expertise and interest in more than one of the following areas: Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Psychology, and Educational Technologies and their impact on teaching practice, teacher development, K-12 student learning, or school, university, and community partnerships
  • Expertise in place- and community-based education or Academic Service-Learning
  • Expertise in urban education
  • Teaching experience within a field-based educator preparation program
  • Experience with mentoring underrepresented teaching candidates
  • Experience or expressed interest in acquiring or seeking external funding


The successful candidate will serve an eight-month, tenure track appointment with summer employment contingent on student demand and funding. A competitive salary will be based on qualifications and prior experience with a tenure track appointment at the assistant professor rank. Starting date should be no later than August 31, 2021.
