Information Technology Shared Services (ITSS) is a component of The University of North Texas System. IT Shared Services provides the primary technology used by all campuses to support their operations. These include: shared resources of data centers, computing hardware, software applications, network and voice communications, collaboration and productivity capabilities, central web services, risk management, and security and compliance services. Position Overview:

The IT Shared Services Department at the University of North Texas System is seeking to hire an IT Support Specialist III to join our team. This position is responsible for providing tier 1 technology support and maintaining security of computing resources. Troubleshoots both hardware and software problems within a University environment. Duties reflect substantial variety and complexity. Acts as a resource to other staff in resolution of complex problems and issues. Knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment is required. In addition, this position will act as the coordinator of the Knowledge Management process.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree in related field and three years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Generally 8 am – 5 pm

  • Provides service desk support day to day operations

  • Tracks all service desk activities through work tracking system, assesses service desk effectiveness and identifies and implements improvements

  • Identifies needs and coordinates or administers technical training for service desk staff

  • Provides accessible training on work tracking system

  • Develops or procures effective self-paced training to accommodate users as necessary

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of appropriate user services trends to support the University mission

  • Provides effective advice and recommendations to the IT Manager

  • Contributes and shares knowledge, ask questions, and elicit suggestions from other team members

  • Ensures service desk staff are well trained in customer service principles and employ those principles when working with customers
