Compensation: Starting salary is based on rank and applicable steps for related work experience as per the Santa Fe College Salary Schedule. Promotional placement is not limited to the posted salary range maximum. Description:

Santa Fe College is seeking a nine (9) month Assistant Professor, Health Information Technology to fill a continuing contract position to promote and encourage student success through quality instruction and real-world learning experiences beginning Fall 2021.

Under general supervision, the Assistant Professor, Health Information Technology will develop, prepare and teach courses in health information management, data analysis and technology courses. Faculty may be assigned to SF’s main Northwest campus or housed at any of the College’s six educational centers. Course offerings within Business Programs may be taught during the day, evening, or online, as well as using other distance learning formats. It is expected for the Assistant Professor, Health Information Technology to be comfortable utilizing an online learning management system in addition to classroom instruction. Business Programs full-time faculty have a primary nine (9) month contract based on teaching 15 credit hours in the fall and 15 credit hours in the spring; teaching opportunities beyond contractual obligations, including during the summer may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Plan, organize and teach classes in the HIT degree program.

  • Assist in the development of curriculum.

  • Develop, classes, and analyze student, course, and program learning outcomes across courses in the program.

  • Work with other faculty and staff in the department to develop, evaluate, and revise curriculum to help ensure student mastery of material.

  • Promote quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, student success/learning, student retention, and faculty scholarship.

  • Work with the department’s advisors, to counsel students on a regular basis to ensure on-time graduation.

  • Develop and implement technology based instructional components for all assigned classes.

  • Collaborate with the program director, BP Chair, department faculty and staff, and other college officials in implementing college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the college’s mission, vision, and goals.

  • Participate in student orientation/organization events and faculty meetings.

  • Work with program director/coordinator to ensure CAHIIM requirements are achieved and AHIMA competencies are current; ensure maintenance of HIT-related websites, newsletters and other items are current, as specified.

  • Participate in staff meetings and committee work as requested.

  • All courses in the Health Information Technology are taught online. Thus, candidates should be comfortable teaching in an online learning management system.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Chair, Business Programs

Qualifications:

Required: A Master’s degree with at least 18 hours in Health Information Management or related discipline is required. Current certification as an RHIT or RHIA. Prior college teaching. For further information regarding credentialing requirements see page the SF Faculty Credentialing Manual.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: Additional Health Information Management AHIMA certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Communication – able to effectively communicate in a professional, diplomatic, empathetic, and tactful manner using preferred method and level as applicable to the job.

  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.

  • Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment.
