Hiring Department College of Education The Department of Educator Preparation in the College of Education at the University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL) seeks a grant and research coordinator as part of a federally-funded literacy research grant. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is one of 11 states to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Education for its Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) program. The goal of the Missouri CLSD project is to support educators’ working knowledge of evidence-based literacy strategies to effectively teach reading and writing to all students. This includes providing professional development to pre-service teachers in institutions of higher education, early childhood education teachers and K-12 educators to enable them to provide effective instruction. This grant will additionally support districts with developing evidenced-based literacy plans to implement in their local schools and provide support for families. The UMSL team will focus on research-based, equitable literacy education in the Greater St. Louis Region. The position begins as early as January 1 with the latest start date of June 1, 2021. This is a one-year position, with possibility for renewal up to five years. ResponsibilitiesManages the operational, financial and personnel activities of a university grant and associated research.
- Explains policies and procedures to advise and assist others and/or grant teamOversees and guides the processes to complete workEnsuring compliance with grant regulationsEducating staff on grant policiesMay perform some of the work supervised/managedApplies operational research practices and coordinates with other closely related teams/areas to improve efficiencyAdminister and supervise the acquisition, processing and maintenance of research or historical materialsDocumentation of grant activitiesProvide research and grant assistance to faculty, staff scholars, students, and other external partiesPossesses formal supervisory responsibilitiesCoordinates resources and sets daily priorities to meet operational objectives and offset competing prioritiesUses judgment to identify, troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problemsImpacts the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team and its contribution to the grant and associated research in collaboration with internal and external evaluatorsExplains information, conveys performance expectations and handles sensitive issuesOverall responsibility of the coordination and management of all CLSD grant related projectsPlan and facilitate meetings with grant team and school sub-granteesPreparing progress reports for stakeholders and grant coordinating centerCommunication with CLSD partners, DESE, and K-12 school sub-granteesCoordinate data collection systems for reporting and research purposesLead scholarly initiatives - such as IRB submissions, research studies, policy briefings, publications, etc.Supports professional development activities

- Earned graduate degree in Literacy Education or related fieldExperience with scholarly activities (research, record of publications, grant writing)Experience supporting professional development of teachersExperience working with organizations that serve historically under-represented groups, particularly those in urban communities and school systems.
