Departmental Overview

The Network for Neutrinos, Nuclear Astrophysics, and Symmetries (N3AS) is a multi-institutional collaboration dedicated to recruiting and training postdoctoral researchers interested in neutrino physics and astrophysics, nuclear astrophysics topics ranging from supernova and neutron star modeling to dark matter, and fundamental symmetries. The collaboration is funded by the National Science Foundation and the Heising-Simons Foundation.

The Program Coordinator supports the newly created Physics Frontier Center Network for Neutrinos, Nuclear Astrophysics, and Symmetries (N3AS) and its programs involving transfer students, undergraduate research, community outreach, and international partnerships.

Responsibilities
  • Interacts with program officers from the National Science Foundation, including presentations with an international physics community.
  • Coordinates efforts with a variety of external and internal contacts; researches organizational structures, policies and procedures and summarizes best practices.
  • Provides technical guidance and quality assessment. Coordinates implementation with cross-organizational departments or external entities as needed.
  • Provides day-to-day administrative, financial and technical support to NSAS. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Deals with policies, programs and proposals that complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.
  • Researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issue, data gathering and evaluation and, budget tracking, which entails interactions with program officers from the National Science Foundation, including presentations with an international physics community.
  • Data gathering and evaluation, and budget tracking. Provides analyses for complex budget (currently 3 Contract and Grants totaling approximately $2,400,000/year), financial, academic, data, systems and resource projects working directly with the N3AS Director/Principal Investigator and Executive Committee members/co Principal investigator.
  • Develops scope of work, budgets, and reports for project requirements.
  • Supports transfer students by involving them in research experiences, with the goal of improving retention in the physics major; supports undergraduates participating in a new summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates program.
  • Create an annual summer school for advanced graduate students and beginning postdoctoral researchers.
  • Proposes, leads and participates in policy and planning committees and working groups. Provides strategy development for organizational and research initiative. Conducts post-implementation analysis to determine the need for further enhancements.
  • Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the organization or initiative.
  • Researches and analyzes processes and procedures, summarizes findings, policies and organizational structures in order to develop or implement changes.
  • Provides consultative services to department administrators, partners and external stakeholders.
  • Researches and drafts complex proposals, reports, briefings, executive summaries, and speeches. Establishes and maintains contacts internally and with external constituents for the collection and exchange of data.

Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge or ability to learn of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong policy analysis techniques.
