Description
The College of Engineering and Applied Science at UCCS is seeking a qualified lecturer to teach a Spacecraft Environment Interactions course as part of a professional graduate program in Space Operations.  The course will be offered online in the Summer term of 2021.  Priority will be given to candidates who possess an advanced degree in engineering or aerospace engineering, experience working in an engineering, aerospace engineering, or space operations field, and demonstrated experience teaching graduate students in an online environment.

Course description: 

Introduction to the properties and effects of the environment in which spacecraft and astronauts must operate. Intensive coverage is given to the earth-sun-lunar system.Topics include earth’s environment ionosphere, atmospheric chemistry, radiation belts, magnetosphere, aurora, geomagnetic storms, celestial background, and bio-astronautic effects.Duties include:

Teaching-related activities such as preparing lectures, posting video lectures, preparing exams, grading, and student interaction.Assessment-related activities such as course curriculum and student learning outcomes and measures.  Lecturer positions are hired semester by semester.  This part-time at will appointment is not eligible for group health, life insurance, and retirement benefits. This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary: $2100 stipend plus $200 per student up to 10 and $100 per student over 10 (per section), minimum of $4000* per 3 credit hour course

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related field. Four months experience teaching graduate level courses (teaching assistant, instructor of record or the equivalent) in an online environment. Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related field.Physical Requirements:

While performing the requirements of this job, employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
