Overview

The Senior Associate Director for Alumni Engagement and Experiential Learning position exists to lead strategy, oversee existing signature programs, and implement innovative new programs around student-alumni engagement. The Senior Associate Director reports directly to the Executive Director, and serves as a key member of the Center for Career Development leadership team, helping to shape and implement strategic priorities for the department. This position strategically builds out new programs to creatively connect Princeton alumni and students for career exploration, skill building, and networking. In addition, the person in this role leads a team of professional staff to work collaboratively to carry out initiatives.

The person in this role also serves as an expert on experiential learning pedagogy, as well as legal and logistic issues associated with internships and job shadowing. This position is responsible for building campus-wide partnerships and implementing programs for students to engage in reflection related to experiential learning, with specific focus on offering supporting resources and programs for Milestone internship credit and Princeternship.



Responsibilities
Program Development & Management
  • Based upon student developmental needs, design, implement, and manage a suite of new and innovative programs to engage alumni volunteers and move them through a pipeline of increasing engagement. Ensure that alumni are properly acknowledged and stewarded as volunteers.
  • Collaborate with team members to facilitate dramatic increases in opportunities for alumni-student networking, including: group site visits, networking receptions on campus and across the country, informational interview programs, individual Princeternships (short-term internships), skill building in a variety of areas (including interview skills), and platforms/programs for students to learn about alumni career paths. Focus on building out both in-person and virtual programs and engagement opportunities.
  • Develop opportunities and processes for student reflection on experiential learning activities to enhance achievement of learning outcomes. Create learning frameworks and infrastructure to support students participating in experiential activities, including internships for Milestone credit.

Leadership, Relationship Building & Outreach

  • Build and strengthen relationships with Alumni Affairs, Development, and Advancement colleagues to ensure excellent communications and collaboration with alumni volunteers
  • Work closely with Employer Engagement team to increase numbers of alumni posting jobs and internships; ensure ease of posting, detailed tracking and reporting, and enhanced promotion of these opportunities to students
  • Recruit, communicate with, conduct outreach and develop deep relationships with a large base of alumni volunteers
  • Act as in-house expert on rules, guidelines, and labor-related issues for internships and experiential opportunities
  • Develop relationships with student leaders across campus to support and expand participation in experiential learning activities

Management & Supervision

  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to Alumni Engagement and Experiential Learning team; ensure team has support to grow and evolve the programs within their portfolios

Direct Student Service

  • Meet individually or in groups with students to provide coaching and advising to help students clarify values, interests, skills, and strengths
  • Assist students with the development of action plans and follow-up strategy

Reporting and Analysis

  • Oversee budget, assessment and outcomes reporting for experiential learning initiatives
  • Create narrative reports and presentations for senior leadership and advisory boards, which identify and articulate program impact
  • Use data to drive decision-making with an eye toward continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • 5 + years of experience in alumni/volunteer relations, experiential learning and internship programs
  • Demonstrated passion and experience in cultivating connections, program planning and execution, group facilitation and engagement, and advising college students and alumni
  • Proven record of developing cohesive teams, managing performance and productivity, strategic planning, and contributing to organizational leadership
  • Proven ability to motivate others, overcome barriers, and achieve goals
  • Exceptional organizational and leadership abilities and effective communication skills
  • Experience in providing group and individual career coaching and advising to students
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion within the workplace and in all interactions with all constituents and stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to deliver effective presentations to diverse audiences, and build internal and external relationships
    • Comfort with change, ambiguity, and risk in a fast-paced environment
    • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in a related field preferred
