Scope of Job:
Candidates should be experts in the broad fields of sustainability and environmental chemistry.
1. Sustainability: The successful candidate is expected to have extensive research and training background in the broad field of chemical sustainability, which may include but is not limited to the specialized field of sustainable materials and chemistry, sustainable chemical process/catalysis, broad spectrum of processes etc. This position will be assigned to the Brownsville campus.
2. Environmental Chemistry: The successful candidate is expected to have ample experience in the broad field of environmental chemistry, preferable in environmental analytical instrumentation, environmental analytical chemistry, etc.. This position will be assigned to the Edinburg campus.
Expected duties for each position include teaching lower and upper level undergraduate and graduate chemistry courses, mentoring students in research, and establishing an active, innovative, and externally funded research program in the areas of Sustainability and/or Environmental Chemistry. In addition, the successful candidates are expected to participate in the development and delivery of an interdisciplinary Materials Science doctoral program in the near future.
The Department of Chemistry is an American Chemical Society approved program and currently offers B.S. and M.S. degrees. The successful candidate is expected to be an active participant in departmental, college and university activities. Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or closely related field.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Evidence of ability and motivation to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate courses in her/his area of specialization. Evidence of ability and strong commitment to establish an innovative research program in the related field with postdoc experience and a good record of peer-reviewed publications.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215.
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
