Job Description

To ensure compliance with NJCAA, Scenic West Athletic Conference and CSN rules and regulations governing student athletes. Incumbent will advise, develop, and coordinate academic plans for all CSN student athletes that lead to graduation, transfer. As the number of athletic teams at CSN continues to expand, the existing advising infrastructure is insufficient to keep up with student-athlete demand for increased academic monitoring and skill-building needs. Additionally, increased compliance investment is required to meet and maintain all aspects of regulatory measures. The Athletic Academic Advisor, working with each head coach, must ensure that students have applied, enrolled and making progress in all aspects of their academic endeavors at CSN. Additional department responsibilities require that the athletic academic advisor attend athletic events as they occur to develop positive relationships students and coaches the promote completion and graduation. The ideal candidate will possess the qualities below.
  • Knowledge and understanding of National Junior College Athletic Association rules, regulations and policies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Scenic West Athletic Conference rules, regulations and policies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CSN, and NSHE academic and athletic policies.
  • Ability to manage academic and athletic advising responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage a caseload of 200 student athletes on a personal and daily basis when required.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and computer skills.
  • Extensive knowledge with internal, external and NJCAA auditing procedures.
  • Experience with the management of students and complex student schedules.
  • Skilled using word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing software.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science or related field from an accredited college/university and 1 year of College recruitment, advising & retention services experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Attendance and support at CSN athletic events is required as support staff for the department including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work with CSN academic advising team to keep up to date with department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse student population, staff, faculty, and parents.
  • Experience using and interpreting FERPA and HIPAA policies.
