Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago (LUC) invites applications for full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level for academic year 2021-22. The department seeks applicants with expertise in using computational approaches in Cognitive Science or Neuroscience. We especially encourage applications from scholars committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields including those in the Neuroscience and Computer Science programs and the Stritch School of Medicine). The successful candidate will be joining a department of 34 full-time Psychology faculty members, over 2000 Psychology and Neuroscience majors and minors, and three PhD programs (Developmental, Clinical, and Social). A joint appointment in the Computer Science Department is also possible with the opportunity to work with its students and faculty. This search is part of a University-wide, multi-year hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who are reflective of our diverse student body and committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines) and the pursuit of external grants. Of special interest are candidates who can further the University’s efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The successful candidate will build a strong funded program of research that involves undergraduates and will contribute broadly to our psychology and neuroscience majors including teaching undergraduate students. We are particularly interested in candidates who use computational methods to understand either behavioral or neuroscience data and are prepared to teach classes like computational neuroscience, introduction to cognitive science, cognitive psychology, sensation and perception, cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, statistics, or data science courses related to behavioral or neuroscience data. The candidate will also contribute to building a new neuroscience graduate program.

Qualifications:

The candidate will have a Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field at the time of appointment. Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in research and teaching and have a record of (or clear potential for) distinguished scholarship, grant-funded research, and student mentorship. The candidate should be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
