Job Summary: The Student Life Executive Director is responsible for a large division of Student Life, which includes supervision of personnel, budgeting & accounting, administration of programs & activities, evaluation of personnel & programs and reporting.

Additional Department Summary: The Executive Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life is responsible for providing leadership and casting a strategic vision for fraternity and sorority life at The University of Alabama. The position will develop long-term comprehensive plans that advance the mission of OFSL and will provide senior-level leadership and guidance to all facets of fraternity and sorority life at UA, including recruitment, programming, risk management, education, facilities, and operations.
The Executive Director will engage students, staff, advisors, alumni, parents, and national organizations to cast a forward-looking vision, build upon the many strengths of the UA fraternity and sorority community, and implement programs and procedures that focus on a desired for sustained excellence.
Given the number of constituents and internal and external stake holders, the successful candidate will have executive-level communication skills, significant experience leading large teams, and demonstrated experience in visioning and long-range planning.
The Executive Director will directly supervise the Director of FSL and the Director of FSL Housing, and will provide support to all Assistant Directors, Student Life Specialists, and Program Assistants in the department. Each staff member in the department is responsible for developing a growing, healthy Greek community that is nationally recognized for its quality chapter experience and contributions to campus life. The fraternity and sorority community at The University of Alabama consists of 67 social fraternities and sororities with more than 10,500 student members, including 46 chapter housing facilities with approximately 1,900 residents.
Responsible for completing required training that is related to laws and regulations, that creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace; and safer work environment.
Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training.
Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and ten (10) years of leadership experience in student programming, advising student groups and organizations, admissions/recruiting, and other student-oriented activities; OR Master's degree and eight (8) years of leadership experience in student programming, advising student groups and organizations, admissions/recruiting, and other student-oriented activities. Must include experience in fraternity and/or sorority advising and/or work experience with inter/national fraternal organizations. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated relationship building with multiple stakeholders. Proven record of organizational ability, oral and written communication skills, as well as program development, implementation, and evaluation experience. Experience supervising staff. Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize multiple, often competing needs. Knowledge of research and best practices related to student development, student engagements, and organizational communication theory. Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through: demonstrating self-awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: Terminal degree or higher and at least 15 years of experience. Previous professional experience in higher education with progressively increasing responsibilities. Demonstrated capability to lead complex teams. Demonstrated capacity to implement long-range plans across multiple levels of complexity. Membership in an inter/national Greek-letter organization.
