Position Description

This position provides coordination of services and events for interested and eligible students in the NTC Promise programs. This individual will work with Business and Industry Solutions and employers, K-12, Job Center and WIOA partners, Career Coaches, the Learning Team, Student Success, and other college divisions to organize programs and events that address the NTC Promise. This person will also serve as Student Success Advisor for students in the School of Public Safety. He/she serves to guide Promise and program students’ learning journeys and provides proactive case management services to ensure academic success and program completion. The Promise/Student Success Advisor will serve students throughout the NTC district. This position is a full-time (40 hours/week, 52 week) position and is accountable to the Dean of Student Success.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the planning and implementation of the NTC Promise programs.
  2. Provide leadership by promoting awareness, recruitment, retention and completion of students of diverse backgrounds.
  3. Work with external partners to promote awareness and to evaluate needs in the community.
  4. Serve as the first point of contact for Public Safety students being admitted to assigned programs.
  5. Assist in coordinating proactive advising activities, and in continuous improvement of services to Promise and Public Safety program students.
  6. Provide support for onboarding of new students in traditional and Virtual College programs, including new student orientation.
  7. Provide case management to students from enrollment to completion, to include: individual meetings, assisting with required/elective course selection, prerequisites, recommended credit load, monitoring grades, supporting transfer, tutoring referrals, monitoring progress towards graduation, and making referrals to other college services as needed.
  8. Incorporate proactive intervention strategies to identify students who may benefit from advising services and initiating contact.
  9. Develop appropriate action plans to guide students through their program curriculum, to meet requirements of state and local benefit agencies, and achieve desired career and/or transfer goals.
  10. Use technology to provide information and guide students including websites, on-line chat, career software, and online resources.
  11. Collaborate and communicate with program faculty, faculty mentors, and other Student Success Advisors regarding program activities and student referrals.
  12. Work collaboratively with other areas of the college including, Admissions, Student Success, Disability and Testing, Financial Aid and Records to help improve and refine College student processes.
  13. Assist students in determining credit for prior learning opportunities.
  14. Assist assigned students in the pursuit of career goals including: decision making, college choices, and job opportunities using a variety of resources appropriate to the students’ needs.
  15. Coordinate advising activities at Regional Campuses in close cooperation with Enrollment Specialist using all available methods of service delivery.
  16. Assist in facilitating job and transfer fair events, mock interviews, and opportunities for students to engage with employers.
  17. Serve as co-advisor for student club.
  18. Assist with retention based workshops such as job seeking skills, time management, financial literacy, etc.
  19. Responsible for contacting students who have recently withdrawn to build retention and support completion.
  20. Respond to student concerns/problems and referring students to appropriate resources, including counseling services.
  21. Complete activity reports and data entry for retention, tracking and grant accountability.
  22. Demonstrates a commitment to the college’s mission, core beliefs and strategic direction.
  23. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education or related, Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds.
  3. Must have a proven track record for supporting student success for students of color.
  4. Experience and/or knowledge of Public Safety careers preferred.
  5. Must possess excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills.
  6. Must have ability to effectively plan and coordinate activities and teams, as well as strategically plan program improvement. Ability to plan, organize, promote and implement campus events and educational workshops.
  7. Ability to address the unique needs of adult students.
  8. Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with internal staff and students.
  10. Knowledge and understanding of college admissions, career development, and financial aid processes.
  11. Must demonstrate effective group facilitation and presentation skills.
  12. At least three years related work experience with at-risk populations in a higher education institution or relevant experience working with at-risk individuals.
  13. Experience in advising, career planning, and placement services.
  14. Teaching experience preferred.
  15. Working knowledge of current computer software. Knowledge of career services technologies and software.
  16. Ability to travel to various locations within the district.
  17. Employment is conditional on compliance regarding the completion of a Criminal Background Check.

Required Employee Program Safety Training: Emergency action plan, emergency procedures, ergonomics (office/workplace), slips, trips and falls and vehicle safety
