Position Overview:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

College Information: The College of Fine Arts and Design is a center of excellence and innovation for improving and promoting arts education. Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

The Department of Theatre Arts at University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for an Instructor of Theatre/Communication Education as a full-time, non-tenure track appointment commencing August 2021. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate course work in theatre education, mass communication, and professional teacher education and in a variety of formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and online). Additionally, the successful candidate will serve as the Theatre/Communication Education B.F.A.Ed. Program Coordinator, and liaison between the Department of Theatre Arts, the College of Fine Arts & Design, and the College of Education and Professional Services.

  • Coordinate the Theatre/Communication Education B.F.A.Ed. Degree program.
  • Teach a full course load of undergraduate classes in theatre/communication education.
  • Advise, assess, and mentor students in the Theatre/Communication Education Program, including completion of the Oklahoma School Standard Teaching Certification process.
  • Supervise and assess Theatre/Communication Education student teaching assignments.
  • Recruit and retain students in the Theatre/Communication Education Program.
  • Adhere to the educational mission of the Department, College, and University.
  • Serve on Department, College, and University committees, as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with all colleagues, administrative staff, and students.

Qualifications Qualifications / Experience:

A Master’s Degree in Education awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement is required. A minimum of three years’ secondary-level teaching experience is required; three years’ university-level teaching experience is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The successful candidate must be an excellent educator, advisor, and student mentor, who is committed to working collaboratively in the Theatre Arts Department and the College of Fine Arts & Design. Candidates must have prior knowledge and experience teaching theatre/speech/debate at the secondary level (grades 6-12). Candidates must teach effectively in a range of instructional formats, including live, hybrid, and online. Candidates must have prior knowledge of theatre practice, production, and performance. Finally, applicants must possess strong skills in communication, leadership, organization, and task-orientation.
