Position Overview:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

The Department of History and Geography at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in history and history education to begin August 2021. We seek a teacher-scholar who is dedicated to enhancing our culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion while complementing existing faculty strengths. Preference will be given to candidates with a research specialty in Latinx history or southeast Asian history or a closely related field.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 3:3 load in the graduate and undergraduate curricula, as well as direct the department’s history education program, which includes administrative duties, assessment, and accreditation.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Teaching responsibilities include Social Studies Methods, as well as advanced history courses. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to the department’s core survey offerings in US and/or world history.

Qualifications

Experience Required:

Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor.

An earned Ph.D. in History from an accredited college or university required by time of appointment. Ed.D. candidates must have a minimum of 18 hours of graduate history credits in history.


A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a 6-12 setting is required for this position.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Familiarity with use of online learning management systems (for example: D2L, Webex, etc.). Willingness to teach in a variety of instructional formats (in-person, hybrid, and online) as needed and appropriate.
