Position Overview:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Teaching assignments will include a variety of courses supporting the Occupational Safety major and program. In addition, the successful candidate will engage in scholarly and creative activities, and service to the program, department, college and university. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders to the program including professional organizations, companies and societies.

Faculty

Experience Required:

An earned masters degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified, or related, in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). In addition, the successful candidate will have experience in teaching and/or training in subject matter specified in the announcement. Experience teaching in a university setting is required. In addition, the successful candidate must have experience delivering courses in a variety of formats and modalities including online, blended, hybrid, and face to face. Experience in online learning platforms is required. Industry specific knowledge and experience is required, with a demonstrated commitment to the occupational, environmental, and/or industrial health and safety field.

Experience Preferred:

Preference will be given to candidates who meet the criteria specified above, and in addition hold an earned doctorate degree in the field specified, or related, in the position announcement.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate commitment to working in an environment devoted to transformative learning, professional development, scholarly excellence and service to others. The candidate should also have a teaching/learning philosophy consistent with the mission of the University of Central Oklahoma, the College of Education and Professional Studies, and the Department of Adult Education and Safety Sciences. Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and building a strong line of scholarly endeavors and production. Teaching assignments may include Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Chemistry and Toxicology, Environmental Management, Introduction to OSHA, Applied Industrial Hygiene, Petroleum Safety and Advance Field Applications in Petroleum Safety, and other courses as needed. In the evaluation and interview process, the candidate must provide demonstrated excellence in teaching effectiveness, a commitment to the program and students, and the ability to synthesize classroom instruction with real-world application.
