Professional Research Assistant or Senior Professional Research Assistant

Seeking Professional Research Assistant or Senior Professional Research Assistant, depending on qualifications. 

Overall Description of Responsibility or Nature of Work

This position reports directly to the Raphael Nemenoff in the Department of Medicine, and is responsible for the study the role of the tumor microenvironment on progression of lung cancer.

Specific Position Duties with Percentages of Time

[ 80 ]% 

[1st area of responsibility]:

The applicant will perform experiments examining factors that mediate progression of lung cancer and response to therapy using mouse models.   These studies will involve using several models of lung cancer progression in mice and analyzing response of lung tumors to immunotherapy and targeted kinase inhibitors.  Experiments will use CT imaging to quantify tumor progression, as well as analysis of tissues from these animals to quantify changes in the tumor microenvironment.  In vitro studies will also examine the interactions between tumor cells and macrophages.  The signaling pathways mediating crosstalk between these cell types will be examined, as well as biological responses, including cell proliferation, differentiation, production of inflammatory cytokines and cell migration/invasion.  These studies will use molecular approaches to overexpress or silence components of signaling pathways in these cells.

[2nd area of responsibility]:

The applicant will carry out activities related to lab management.  These include purchasing of reagents, maintenance of mouse colonies and fulfilling regulatory requirements (Biosafety, animal protocols).

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related areas. 

To be considered at the Senior PRA level, you would need a master’s degree in biological sciences or related areas, or equivalent experience.

 

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in working with mice is highly desirable.  Experience in analyzing tissues using either flow cytometry or immunostaining would also be important.
