The Department of Pediatrics has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Pharmacy Technician position.

Nature of Work
The Hemophilia & Thrombosis Center (HTC) is a clinical care and research center that serves persons with rare bleeding disorders.  The general operations are divided across the outpatient clinic, research laboratory, 340B pharmacy, patient support programs, and regional and national programs. The University of Colorado Hemophilia Center Pharmacy is an accredited 340B specialty pharmacy providing medications for treatment of bleeding and clotting disorders.   The pharmacy purchases and dispenses high cost inventory valued at over $50 million annually.  This Pharmacy Technician position will provide support to the pharmacy in the areas of inventory management and purchasing, customer service, order fulfillment and shipping, patient assessment refill documentation, records management, facilities maintenance, and monthly operations reporting.

Examples of Work Performed

Inventory Management and Purchasing

  • Forecast and purchase all drugs and medical supplies, complying with PSC guidelines, utilizing multiple vendor sources, and complying with all 340B program inventory rules
  • Assist with continuous monitoring of perpetual 340B mixed use inventory model and report any discrepancies to the pharmacy manager
  • Monitor and rotate inventory to mitigate expired inventory losses
  • Monitor and maintain par levels on all inventory
  • Research and purchase all specialty request items
  • Enter all purchases into pharmacy database, ensure purchases tie out with payables system on monthly basis, resolve discrepancies with accounting
  • Count and document high cost commercial factor and study inventory on weekly basis, identify and resolve any discrepancies 
Customer Service

  • Interface with 250 -300 patients monthly regarding medication and supply requests.  Collect compliance information, changes in patient information or other needs and forward appropriate clinical information pharmacists
  • Document all interactions with patients in pharmacy patient management system 
  • Manage and disseminate all emails received in pharmacy general email address to appropriate staff 
  • Disseminate all communications to patients via paper or electronic
Order Fulfillment and Shipping

  • Pick and assemble patient orders (medications and infusion supplies) for final pharmacist review and check
  • Package all orders for Fedex shipment or local courier delivery
  • Track and monitor all shipments to ensure shipment integrity and receipt by patient in timely manner 
  • Reconcile all courier and shipment invoices on monthly basis 
  • Assist with coordination and duties related to twice annual temperature shipping studies
  • Perform nonsterile compounding under the direction of the pharmacist for specific products for bleeding disorder patients.
  • Perform required cleaning of the nonsterile compounding hood and environment, maintain all cleaning records and other nonsterile compounding records
Document and Records Management

  • Serve as primary records manager for all patient care and business records required for daily pharmacy operations, in both paper and electronic document management systems.  Examples include patient charts, daily prescription dispensing logs, purchase records, DSCSA documentation, patient signed documents, delivery receipts
  • Review Check Point temperature monitoring reports daily
  • Maintain pump tracking log information as required
Facilities Management

  • Define and maintain organization and cleanliness standards of the pharmacy, including labeling standards that comply with industry standards to prevent medication errors
  • Procure and oversee housekeeping services and manage hazardous waste disposal according to university standards
  • Maintain all pharmacy equipment in working order, including refrigerators, computers, printers, kardex system; obtain and manage service and maintenance agreements on all appropriate equipment
  • Maintain refrigerator monitoring system to be in compliance with all standards and requirements of research participation and Board of Pharmacy; report and resolve discrepancies
Reporting Functions

  • Prepare all monthly operations reports as defined by Pharmacy Manager utilizing Excel, Access, Crystal Reports Delivery and pharmacy software
  • Complete monthly 340B purchasing audit reports and submit to Pharmacy Manager
  • Monthly reports to the pharmacy Quality Management Committee as assigned 
  • Other projects as assigned

Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this positon begins at $36,063 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program 
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as a pharmacy technician.  
Required: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Able to demonstrate good customer service skills 
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and attend to detail
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience in reporting functions of Crystal Reports, pharmacy database software, specialty pharmacy care management system
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in specialty or home infusion pharmacy 
  • Experience with pharmacy accreditation standards and reporting
  • Previous experience working in 340B setting including inventory management
Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be willing and able to pass national criminal and sex offender background checks
  • Must successfully pass a 10-panel pre-employment drug screen
