The Music Program in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Music Composition to begin August, 2021. Responsibilities include creative work and research in music composition, teaching, and developing curricula in the following areas: composition, computer music and music theory. Applicants should be prepared to offer a variety of instructional formats such as in-person, hybrid, or online. We seek applicants who can bring a diverse spectrum of contemporary compositional approaches to recruit and mentor students in the Composition & Sonic Arts track in the B.A. in Visual Performing Arts as well as the Bachelor of Innovation of Music. The successful candidate will possess a significant background in acoustic and electronic music composition that embodies a diversity of practices, new approaches to music theory and interdisciplinary breadth. Other preferable qualifications may include but are not limited to: music in film and television scoring, web-based applications, game design, sound design, or other, as well as experience and ideas to diversify and innovate the music curriculum. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Music or closely related discipline
- Phd, DMA or other terminal degree
- Experience developing composition, music theory or music technology curriculum in Higher Education.
- Experience in film and television scoring
- Experience in web-based applications, game design, sound design
- Experience in diversifying and innovating music curriculum
