Organizational Unit Overview:

The Division of University Advancement is the friend-raising and fund-raising arm of the general academic areas of the university; therefore, all of its activities are designed to generate support, financial or otherwise for East Carolina University. The units and subunits within the division work together to identify, involve, cultivate, and solicit alumni and friends of the university to gain financial support from the private sector for the purpose of enhancing the long and short range growth and welfare of the university. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement is responsible for the following diverse units: Alumni Relations, ECU Foundation, Medical and Health Sciences Foundation of ECU and University Development.

Job Duties :

The Senior Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will manage her/his own portfolio, which will include, externally, a portfolio of foundations and corporations, and, internally, an assigned portfolio of ECU’s school and units.
Internally, in collaboration with development officers, deans, and directors, and in partnership with faculty, the Senior Associate Director will generate, broker, develop, and negotiate proposals for funding. The Senior Associate Director will have the facility for learning quickly across widely varied academic fields and be able to meet and interact effectively and substantively with chief development officers, faculty, and academic leadership. The Senior Associate Director will be expected to play a hands-on role in researching potential funders, reviewing and editing complex proposals, letters, and briefings, and coordinating the submission and tracking of proposals, subsequent funds and reports on behalf of ECU’s schools and units.
The Senior Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations creates and implements strategies for managing foundation and corporate prospects and soliciting them for major gifts. The Senior Associate Director leads this process with Development Directors, Deans, Faculty, and University Leadership. Working with external donors, the Senior Associate Director develops relationships leading to opportunities to connect their interests with ECU.
The Senior Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations assist in the development, and shaping of programmatic project ideas for funding consideration with internal and external constituents. Internally this may include assisting in the development of the project idea, establishing institutional support for the project within the school or unit, identifying potential funding sources and then assisting faculty in developing proposal for submission.

Minimum Education/Experience :

A bachelor’s degree, and a minimum 7years demonstrated successful corporate and/or foundation fundraising experience preferably in higher education, or a comparably complex organization.

- Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, in the area of corporate and foundation fundraising.

- Demonstrated ability in grant and proposal editing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development.

- Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for obtaining research about the giving programs of corporations and foundations.

- Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.

- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals are essential.

- Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.

- Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors, and interact professionally with institutional representatives.

- Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.

- Demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from corporations and foundations.

Preference will be given to candidates with corporate and foundation experience, particularly with a public college or university
