This position works with the overall Forever Buffs Volunteer Network and aides in the implementation of strategies, executes engagement programs, guides local chapter and regional volunteer management, trains for onsite opportunities, coordinates community service projects, and manages parts of the Forever Buffs Network platform. Key attributes required for this position include demonstrated leadership skills, relationship management, the ability to manage budgets and collaborate on program decisions. This position is responsible for all volunteer network activities ranging from local, regional and international networks, as well as creating significant volunteer opportunities in key markets such as increasing volunteers within the network and supporting the volunteers by providing leadership and advocacy for their programs. The position works with the alumni volunteers and leadership boards and acts as the primary staff liaison between these volunteers and the university. As the primary chapter communications liaison, this role helps to schedule and coordinate the communications generated through the Alumni Association's network of chapters and clubs and acts as the interface between staff liaisons, communications team and chapters. This position is responsible for ensuring volunteer activities and initiatives are following current health and safety guidelines regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the responsibilities associated with the volunteer network, this position will be responsible for managing the Alumni Association’s scholarship program and related engagement.

Work with the Associate Director in implementing and managing the Forever Buffs Volunteer Network and supervise the engagements for this program. This network provides a variety of accessible and flexible volunteer opportunities for Forever Buffs to connect and support the university. The Volunteer program must accommodate a variety of needs including various time commitments, physical needs, and market size and location. This position is directly responsible for guiding our 50 chapters nationally and 11 internationally, serves as the volunteer’s liaison to the university, and collaborates with our affinity club’s liaison to support that aspect of the program. This position will work with other departments in the Alumni Association to ensure we encompass all volunteer activities and will actively manage budgets and forecasts needed to support the program. This position is directly responsible for the leadership, management, and coordination of our day of community service program for chapters & volunteers, Buffs Give Back. This is a day when chapters/volunteers across the nation and, hopefully, the world unite to give back to their community as Buffs. Responsibilities include working with marketing to develop sophisticated registration pages to meet each service project’s needs, communicating key details to volunteers, coordinating logistics and supplies. The position supports chapters with risk management and safety considerations for their service engagements. This position is also responsible for planning retreats for local chapters including determining budget for all training activities, developing a robust agenda and travel scholarship program if needed, plus managing contract processes, vendor relationships, registrations, and marketing. Work closely with the Volunteer Resources Center to maximize outreach and impact for volunteers. Strong relationship management experience is highly preferred.
Volunteer Training, Development, On-Site Management:
Through our partnership with the Volunteer Resource Center, utilize supplies of established training guides and volunteer management programs to enhance the Volunteer Network. This position is responsible for training, development, and onsite management of volunteers for the Volunteer Network and at signature CU Boulder Alumni Association events such as Homecoming, Grad Bash, Zoo Lights, Ralphie’s Corral, and Buffs Bashes. This position works with other E&O team members to collaborate on a regional event program to support engagement nationally and promote our chapters/volunteers. Provides input on organizational structure, and communicates standard methodologies for chapter engagement planning, risk management, financial management, communication, and marketing. Works with inventory and asset manager to collaborate on all watch party SWAG inventory orders and to maintain inventory throughout the football season. Encourages chapters and regional volunteers to report accurate event data and is responsible for processing the data based on CUBAA's data management system.
Volunteer Communications:
The Alumni Association programming includes a strong network of Alumni chapters and clubs locally, nationally and internationally. These chapters and clubs communicate to their constituents through email communication, social media and their website. This position is responsible for working with staff and chapters to understand and coordinate chapter and club email communication and web site content. . The position is responsible for building emails using HTML, editing copy and images, reviewing content using AP style guidelines and ensuring there is a strong call to action. Position must collaborate sends with Advancement Marketing Communications for scheduling, review and distribution. Skills in HTML, Salesforce, and/or Marketing Cloud are a plus. This position is responsible for ensuring all scheduled emails are sent on time and reporting out on the results. This position is also responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive volunteer network communication strategy that advises colleagues, departments and alumni regarding volunteer engagement opportunities and results including building volunteer recognition and appreciation into the strategy, as well as being responsible for a web delivery system to solicit volunteers.
Scholarships Program:
This position is directly responsible for managing our scholarship program. This includes coordinating the scholarship timeline with the Financial Aid office and partnering with the accounting department to transfer funds. Responsibilities will also include navigating the Academic Works platform, managing scholarship readings by volunteers, and awarding the scholarships. Position is also responsible for planning and executing a scholarship reception to honor the recipients and their nominators.
Special Projects and Administration:
Responsible for special projects as requested by management. This position requires the ability to speak publicly on a regular basis. Develops positive morale with all staff members and volunteers. Other duties as assigned.What You Should Know
  • Support in event set up and breakdown. This may include lifting heavy items up to 60 lbs.
  • Occasional travel and nights/weekends work is required.

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, advertising, business or another related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in skilled relationship management.
  • Two years of experience in managing people.

Often the alumni chapter is the face of the university in their region and the volunteer leaders must be trained and managed in how to best represent the university. This position helps to plan university events in their areas, advises groups on organizational structure, communicates standard methodologies for chapter event planning, financial management, communication and marketing.

  • Experience managing volunteers in a higher education or nonprofit setting.
  • Graduate of CU Boulder.
  • Two years of experience in event and project management.
