Job Summary:

The Center for Academic Advising & Retention and the Chicana/o/x Studies Program invites applications for the Outreach Specialist/Recruiter, for the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP).

The College Assistance Migrant Program is a federally funded program on a 5-year renewable grant with the goal of assisting migrant and seasonal farm worker students successfully navigate their first year at Eastern Washington University. The Outreach Specialist/Recruiter for CAMP will develop and implement a recruitment plan for the program, and assist the CAMP Director in selecting students for the program.

This position will work closely with Admissions, Financial Aid, and other campus partners to identify and connect with prospective CAMP students, attend recruitment events and visits, and monitor admissions of potential CAMP students, assist potential students and families with completion of the college application, the FAFSA and other financial aid documents. This position will support potential CAMP students and their families with college and financial aid applications; developing/maintaining relationships with migrant student providers, school districts, and community organizations. The Outreach Specialist/Recruiter will support CAMP students’ orientation to college, provide student advocacy, assist with coordinating educational/cultural activities, and assist with training of graduate and undergraduate student staff.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight travel to represent EWU programs, to consult students, parents, and high school professionals.

This position is covered by the Public School Employees’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, marketing, communications, business or related field.
  • Experience working with youth and adults.
  • Experience with outreach and marketing to migrant farmworkers and communities that serve migrant farmworkers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of target communities and community services.
  • Demonstrated understanding of migrant/season farmworker student challenges and needs preventing them from success in higher education.
  • Experience using computer technologies including databases, internet, spreadsheets, tracking systems, and word processing.
  • Spanish and English language proficiency.
  • Ability to participate in evening and weekend events and multi-day recruitment trips.
  • Ability to organize and deliver oral presentations that are concise, informative and appropriate to the audience.
  • Position will require extensive sitting and walking; selected candidate must be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs. involving recruiting materials.
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years working with educational or social services STEM grant programs.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to create and plan functions and events.
  • Experience with student databases such as Banner, Navigate, and Slate

Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm with some evening events such as parent information nights at high schools. Some overnight traveling might also be required.

PROGRAM OUTREACH

  • Develop methods and strategies for recruiting eligible students into EWU CAMP.
  • Analyze data and assess CAMP recruitment strategies and efforts regularly.
  • Maintain a report of trends and changes in potential CAMP enrollments, and report on those enrollment trends to the CAMP Director regularly.
  • Educate students about the requirements of the CAMP program, financial aid, academic policies, admissions, assist students with identifying barriers/issues and make referrals as necessary.
  • Facilitate and assist in the organization and planning of CAMP information nights, orientation events and other outreach programs and events;
  • Perform outreach activities; participate in the events; and serve as university liaison with the migrant and farmworkers community.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with school districts.
  • Assist prospective CAMP students, school personnel and families with processes/policies relating to the EWU college application, admissions, financial aid, and orientation.
  • Facilitate presentations on behalf of EWU CAMP to migrant communities and organizations serving migrant students and families.
  • Respond to inquiries about EWU CAMP from students, parents, school officials and the general public.
  • Assist CAMP students with the high school to first-year in college transition.
  • In collaboration with the CAMP director and Admissions, develop marketing materials and web content for CAMP.
  • Attend Professional Development training which may include travel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Project Director.

Provide record management and administrative support of eligibility records.

  • Evaluate potential CAMP student credentials in the MSIS to determine program eligibility.
  • Build, develop and maintain CAMP recruitment data and tracking systems.
  • Maintain student records as prescribed by the CAMP Director and federal guidelines.
  • Generate and send all pre-enrollment communications to CAMP recruits, including the invitation to participate, and conduct follow-up outreach with recruits regularly.
  • Stay up-to-date on university admissions policies, financial aid process, orientation offerings by attending regular trainings.
  • Provide contact information of potential CAMP students to Admissions.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly activity reports as scheduled or requested by the CAMP Director.
  • Assist Admissions with CAMP programs and projects.
