Qualifications:

• A doctorate (preferred) or a MA (required) in a TESOL related field.

• Preference given to candidates:

  • with expertise in TESOL, second language acquisition, linguistics, EIL and educational technology.

  • with 5 years or more teaching experience in an academic ESL/EFL program.

  • with a minimum of 3 years experience training teachers.

• Brigham You University–Hawaii gives preference to candidates whose background and/or experience connect with the many cultures and geographic regions reflected by the student body.

• Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching BYU–Hawaii’s target student population.

Responsibilities:

• Teach approximately 30 semester credit hours per year over three semesters in some (but not all) of the following subject areas: Intermediate and advanced level credit-bearing ESL courses, specialty skills-based ESL classes, and also undergraduate courses of the BA TESOL program.

• Scholarship, creative endeavor, ongoing professional development, and university service are expected.

• BYU–Hawaii’s primary focus is undergraduate learning and teaching. The individual should be fully committed to student learning (http://about.byuh.edu/learning-framework).

• The individual should be completely committed to helping prepare students to serve in their families, communities, and the Church in the Asia-Pacific area and throughout the world.
