Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in related field. Two years of experience in academic advising, counseling, mentoring, teaching, or a related field. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Serves as Assistant Academic Advisor to students and helps design programs relevant to students’ academic progress.

Primary Responsibilities:

Advises enrolled and prospective participants regarding their academic programs and curriculum. Assesses student needs each semester and makes appropriate recommendations and referrals to program services or other campus support offices when appropriate. Maintains and updates confidential student files along with tracking student participation within the TRiO Teacher Support Services (TSS) program. Provides participants with helpful information to assist in classroom performance and academic progress. Provides grade check forms, lists of tutors, and grade point average (GPA) calculations and informs students about study skills. Provides retention advice to students on probation and assists in resolving academic issues. Assists in coordinating orientation sessions for groups, study skills seminars, and recruiting presentations. Assists in the selection and recruitment of TSS participants. Designs programming for non-cognitive development for retention purposes. Coordinates participant support groups. Helps train new academic coaches and mentors on academic coaching models and tools. Creates academic progress and participation reports for TSS administration. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Regular contact with students, parents, faculty, and staff. This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).

This is a full-time, temporary, benefits-eligible, grant-funded position. Continuation of the position is contingent upon future funding. Current grant projected to end August 31, 2026.
