Position Description

The Timberwolf Learning Commons (TLC) Assistant will report to the Timberwolf Learning Commons Manager and work to increase student retention and success by matching students facing academic challenges with qualified coaches, tutors, and academic support services/resources. This position is grant-funded.


Note: The typical schedule will be Monday – Wednesday 3:00 pm–7:00 pm and Thursday 1:00pm-7:00pm. While these hours are typical, they may be subject to change as workload and needs of our students and work areas change. This position involves local travel.Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with TLC Manager to recruit, schedule, and train peer tutors.
  2. Assess individual student needs and provide a tutor who can best support the student's success and learning style.
  3. Support the student/tutor match as it proceeds, collaborating with deans and faculty to resolve potential issues in a timely manner.
  4. Organize and implement tutoring venues for regional campus and online students.
  5. Collaborate across the College with Programs, College Prep Center, Center for Students with Disabilities, and Student Success Team to support student learning, retention and graduation.
  6. Responsible for Academic Resource Center service desk, Library circulation desk, and customer service functions.
  7. Provide customer assistance in locating information, reference materials, and operating TLC equipment and computers. This includes assisting customers in choosing and navigating a broad range of digital library resources.
  8. Document activities for reporting and client record keeping processes.
  9. Assist with the customer feedback process for tutoring/library consumers and participants. Use feedback for tutoring/library program improvements.
  10. Collaborate with Human Resources to verify work study funds or student employment eligibility
  11. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

A minimum of two years' post-secondary education appropriate to position responsibilities with at least two (2) years of office/administrative assistant experience preferred.Must demonstrate the ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise initiative and judgment and make decisions within the scope of authority.Requires working knowledge of computer software, office procedures, organizational skills, time management, multi-tasking skills, and creativity and resourcefulness to resolve problems.Experience working in a library or learning commons preferred. Physical Demands

6-8 hours: grasping, performing repetitive movements, sitting, working indoors.
4-5 hours: none.
1-3 hours: standing, walking.
Less than one hour: balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, driving, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, twisting, working at heights, working in temperature extremes, working outdoors.

Lifting and Carrying:
Less than 10 pounds: 1-10 repetitions per hour
10-20 pounds: 1-10 repetitions per hour
20-50 pounds: 1-10 repetitions per hour
50-100 pounds: less than one repetition per hour
More than 100 pounds with help: less than one repetition per hour

Additional Physical Requirements:
Vision: Adequate with aid to read instructions, labels, documents, computer screens, and differentiate between colors.
Hearing: Adequate with aid to understand oral requests, telephone conversation, and PA systems.
