Chair of the Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Education

Bagwell College of Education

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a tenure-track, twelve-month, administrative faculty position as Professor and Chair of the Department of Secondary and Middles Grade Education beginning July 2021.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Reports to the Dean of the Bagwell College of Education
  • Serves as administrative leader of the Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Education, performing administrative tasks corresponding to position of department chair
  • Represents the Department in all official communications
  • Collaborates with faculty across the College and with other campus units, school districts, and external agencies
  • Typically, teaches one class per year 

Required Qualifications Include:

  1. Doctorate in Education or a closely related field, or the foreign equivalent.
  2. Credentials appropriate to hold academic rank of professor at Kennesaw State University. Please refer to university promotion and tenure guidelines at: http://www.kennesaw.edu/handbooks/faculty/section3_5/php
  3. Sustained record of teaching, supervision, and mentoring; research and creative activity; and professional service.
  4. Evidence of promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  5. Leadership experience in higher education, including evidence of organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  6. Qualifications to teach courses in the Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Education.

Other qualifications might include:

  1. Experience as a department chair or equivalent leadership role, including strategic planning, managing budgets, and supervising personnel.
  2. Record of advocating for students, faculty, and the department.
  3. Expertise in building and maintaining collaborative relationships and in sustaining effective communities of practice among diverse faculty.
  4. Evidence of commitment to shared governance, educational equity, and social justice.
  5. Experience with graduate and undergraduate program development, assessment, and recruitment.
  6. Experience supporting faculty and student research initiatives and grants.
  7. Experience teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in face-to-face and online environments.
  8. Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain partnerships with P-12 schools.
  9. Record of involvement in professional organizations at the state, regional, and national/international level.
  10. Understanding of state and national standards for educator preparation program assessment and commitment to leading faculty through program renewal.
  11. Experience teaching in grades 4-12 or related experience.
