Position Summary:

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate students unparalleled training for future careers in pharmacy, medicine, and biomedical research. Our innovative, rigorous curriculum integrates concepts from biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacology and physiology. Alumni pursue exciting professional opportunities that improve our society's health and well-being. Pharmaceutical scientists are rapidly changing the field of drug discovery and development. Graduates of our program are well qualified to seek employment in the public and private sectors, or to pursue graduate degrees such as a PhD, MD, or PharmD. UCI's location near large biomedical companies and strong reputation in chemistry and biological sciences make UCI the No. 1 California school for producing pharmacy school applicants. Nearly half of our graduates pursue a doctorate degree in pharmacy school, with many getting accepted into competitive programs at USC, UCSF, and UCSD.

Under the direction of a Principal Investigator, the Software Scientist will work on automation and containerization (Docker images, Singularity, etc.) for the SAMPL series of blind challenges, building software infrastructure so we can bring online a fully automated blind challenge category where participants submit their methods (and we run/test them) rather than just submitting their predictions. This requires both strong domain (science) knowledge in computational molecular modeling and computational chemistry, as well as extremely strong software and automation skills. The incumbent applies advanced computational, computer science, data science, and CI software research and development principles, with relevant domain science knowledge where applicable, to perform highly complex research, technology and software development which involve in-depth evaluation of variable factors impacting medium to large projects of broad scope and complexities. Designs, develops, and optimizes components / tools for major HPC / data science / CI projects. Resolves complex research and technology development and integration issues. Works with community members to help them utilize the infrastructure/resources developed for the SAMPL project. Gives technical presentations to associated research and technology groups and management. Evaluates new hardware and software technologies for advancing complex HPC, data science, CI projects. May represent the organization as part of a team at national and international meetings, conferences and committees. Assists in the design, implementation and recommends new hardware and software technologies for advancing complex HPC, data science, CI projects. May lead a team of research and technical staff.
