The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a PT Instructor, Environmental Science for Chabot College in Hayward, CA. The ideal candidate must have a passion for teaching and learning and a strong commitment to the missions and values of the community college. We are looking for excellent instructors who are student-centered in their approach and dedicated to student success. An ideal candidate will be skilled in promoting student engagement, incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy within the curriculum to promote student success. We are looking for faculty with enthusiastic interest in curriculum and instructional improvement through ongoing critical thinking about student learning outcomes in courses and programs. The ideal Chabot faculty member will have excellent communication skills with students, staff and faculty peers, who are equity-minded in their work.
Applicants must meet the minimum academic requirements listed in order to be considered for the pool of qualified candidates. Applicants that meet the minimum requirements are not automatically accepted to teach at Chabot.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver organized lectures to teach the topics as listed in the course outline of record , which can be located at http://curricunet.com/chabot/ , search under course.
Evaluate students using formative assessments such as homework assignments, projects, quizzes and exams and provide effective and timely feedback to students.
- Select a textbook that meets the course outline of record and utilize it in the course to support teaching.
Generate an online lab curriculum (if needed) to satisfy the course outline of record in collaboration with the lab technician and faculty within the department
- Provide effective and timely feedback to students.
Create a welcoming and student-centered learning and teaching environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s in ecology or environmental studies OR the equivalent OR see Interdisciplinary Studies.
Interdisciplinary Studies
Master’s in the interdisciplinary area OR Master’s in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate course work in at least one other constituent discipline. (NOTE: The Interdisciplinary Studies description is provided to allow for those cases where it is locally determined that a course must be taught by someone with qualifications that exceed a single discipline. The constituent disciplines can include any disciplines found in the Master List).
Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.
Applicants applying under the “Equivalent” provision must provide details that explain at time of application how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degree listed above.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience teaching at the community college level or being the instructor of record in lower division courses.
- Experience teaching online.
- Knowledge and experience in developing online lab and experience working or teaching in a laboratory.
