Position Summary:

The UC Irvine Student Health Center is a comprehensive outpatient clinic staffed with licensed primary care physicians, psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, dentists, physician assistants, registered nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. Medical specialists from various disciplines including dermatology, orthopedics/sports medicine, gynecology, internal medicine, and ENT provide on-site consultation on a regular basis. Student Health also offers basic radiology and clinical laboratory services, insurance consultation, and an on-site pharmacy, making SHC a comprehensive and convenient clinic dedicated to serving students.

Under general direction of the Medical Director or the Senior Lead Physician, the Staff Physician provides medical services to patients on a regularly scheduled or walk-in basis. The Staff Physician serves as a clinician, making preliminary or conclusive diagnosis and providing treatment for the diagnosis. Staff Physicians examine patients and diagnose their illness, prescribe and administer medical treatment and advise patients on how to use prescribed treatments.

$118,141.00 - $217,776.28

Successful completion of an accredited medical school.

Current license to practice medicine in the State of California.

Board certified in an appropriate board as recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).

Active and current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification. Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) card and must maintained in accordance with the American Heart Association standards.

Knowledge of diagnostic and medical practice covering an extensive and varied range of problems.

Skills in taking medical history and physical diagnosis with minimal dependence on laboratory tests and outside consultants.

Knowledge of gynecological principles and practices that is applicable to women students, including birth control concerns, care of gynecological abnormalities and illnesses.

Knowledge of standards of medical care and accepted practice in the community.

Knowledge of and skill in proper medical record charting to maintain appropriate quality assurance standards of the clinic.

Ability to relate to and communicate with students.

Ability to effectively communicate with staff and peers to maintain a friendly, cooperative approach in the care of students.

Ability to handle a versatile caseload to include skin disorders, STD, sports injuries, mental health issues, as well as usual general medical problems.

Awareness of community services and facilities available for care of seriously ill students.


Experience in practicing medicine within a Student Health Center.

Special Conditions Required:

Although this position's schedule is M-F and during traditional work hours, weekends or non-traditional work hours may be required for special projects or busy times of the year, or when strict deadlines must be met. In the case of extended hours, this position may be required to work those hours. This position may be expected to participate in delivering care services via a telehealth platform on-site or remotely up to 100% of the work day. Must be in compliance with the National Practitioner Data Bank and Healthcare Integrity and Protection Data Bank. Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a Department of Justice (DOJ) Live Scan background check, verification and continued monitoring of licensure as it applies to the position, and successful completion of our background review or credentialing process, as appropriate to the position. The employee must comply with OSHA, CA/OSHA, and CDC recommendations and requirements regarding vaccination and testing of healthcare employees. This includes, but may not be limited to; current hepatitis B immunizations, annual flu vaccinations, and annual tuberculosis screening. At the discretion of Student Health Center, the employee may be offered an option to sign a declination acknowledgement in lieu of receiving an annual flu vaccination. Per the UC Ethics Briefing, the employee is responsible for reporting any and all potential conflicts of interest to their supervisor in a timely manner. Employment at the Student Health Center is subject to all UC and UCI Student Health Center policies and procedures.
