The Educational Laboratory Engineer will provide highly technical support to the Bioengineering educational laboratory & Bio-MakerSpace and for courses held in the lab.

Job Description

The Bioengineering Educational Laboratory Engineer will work in support of the Bioengineering educational laboratory & Bio-MakerSpace and courses held in the lab. Under the limited supervision of the Laboratory Director, the position is responsible for the daily operation and quality control within a highly-technical laboratory with a variety of complex equipment. Using specialized knowledge, work independently, or in collaboration with the lab director/course instructors, in order to develop and design new experiments and manuals, as well as custom equipment related to molecular biology, biomechanics and electrical engineering. Analyze experimental data using statistical tools. Mentor students, both during lab classes and for student projects, providing technical expertise in the use of equipment, with experiments and with the theory related to molecular biology, chemistry, circuit design, programming and statistics. Provide general upkeep of the lab facilities and lab classes. Manage student employees and Teaching Assistants who will assist with his/her duties.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Biomedical/Bioengineering or other engineering field and a minimum of three years of related experience in a laboratory or product development setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; strong work ethic with proficiency in two of the following areas and some experience and exposure to all of the following as they apply to Bioengineering: molecular biology, programming (Matlab, & Python), circuit design, chemistry & mechanics. Must be self-motivated, willing to learn and work independently, and attentive to details. Must be able to work with live insects. Good communication and organizational skills and interest in interacting with undergraduate and graduate students and faculty.
