Hiring Department Computer Science Application DeadlinePosted until filled Full Time/Part TimeFull Time (1.0 FTE) Job DescriptionSpecific responsibilities in contributing fundamental research to the project will consist of the following:
Algorithm Design: Design and analyze novel algorithms to address research challenges involving drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), sensors, Internet of Things (IoT), and cyber-physical systems for delivery of goods, search-rescue operations in disasters, and energy-efficient completion of critical missions.
Analytical Modeling: Optimize the performance of proposed algorithms by investigating suitable swarm cooperation among UAVs and humans to develop adaptive solutions, sub-optimal path planning schemes for UAVs aimed at minimizing energy consumption, and efficient online rerouting in uncertain conditions, such as the wind speed and direction.
Performance Evaluation: Evaluate the performance of the proposed solutions through simulation study and/or real experiments using drone kits, sensors, and other emerging loT devices.
Collaboration and Publications: Collaborate with Professor Sajal Das and his PhD students, and publish in high quality journals and conferences. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, as well as develop proposals for submission to the NSF and other funding agencies.Prospective candidates must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science and solid foundation in algorithmic research in UAVs and drones. Missouri S&T is one of the nation’s leading research universities with 98 degree programs in 39 disciplines. Founded in 1870 as one of the first technological institutions west of the Mississippi. Located about 100 miles west of St. Louis in the multicultural community of Rolla, Missouri S&T is an accessible, safe and friendly campus surrounded by Ozarks scenery. Missouri S&T offers degrees in engineering, the sciences, liberal arts, humanities and business, with master’s and Ph.D. programs available in many of the science and engineering programs and master’s degrees in biological sciences, business administration and technical communication. With nearly 9,000 students enrolled on campus and online, Missouri S&T is big enough to accommodate a diverse population, yet small enough for individuals to build high visibility, impactful careers!Comments
