Accounts Payable Specialist & Accountant
Annual Salary Range: $34,000 - 38,000
Position Purpose
The Accounts Payable Specialist & Accountant is a key member of the fiscal department. The primary responsibility of the position is the processing of accounts payable in accordance to its policies and procedures. The position will also be responsible for various accounting functions within the fiscal department as assigned by the supervisor. This position will be a part of implementing new processes to support the College's growth and mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Primary responsibilities include the following, to be assigned by supervisor:
- Ensure the timely processing of accounts payable, including:
- Reviewing budget for available funds
- Ensuring proper authorization and documentation
- Ensuring approval of new vendors
- Working with supervisor to ensure departments follow proper procurement procedures
- Maintaining organized system of records
- Processing and mailing checks
- Help manage the purchasing card system
- Establishing and training new cardholders
- Auditing monthly statements for proper substantiation
- Provide support in the accounts receivable function of the fiscal department
- Invoicing on behalf of the college's various revenue centers
- Collection of moneys from students and the college's entrepreneurial ventures
- Provide support in the purchasing process
- Provide support with third party billing
- Provide support in payroll processing
- Provide support in posting journal entries
- Provide support to the fiscal departments reporting processes
- Operating within college's policies and procedures
- Provide confidential information for bargaining unit contract negotations
- Other duties as assigned
- Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- 1 to 3 years of accounts payable experience preferred
- Accurate and thorough in completing tasks
- Attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- High level of integrity
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of general accounting principles
- Proficient in technology related to the field
