The Center for Health Artificial Intelligence has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Director of Finance and Administration position.

Nature of Work
The position serves as the Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) for the Center for Health Artificial Intelligence which resides in the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The Center for Health Artificial Intelligence is a new center that will build communities that use sophisticated data analysis methods to advance research. The Center aims to develop techniques that advance research and practice using artificial intelligence guided by values that promote equity and lead to improved care. 

Supervision Received
The DFA reports directly to the Center Director and has a dotted reporting relationship to the School of Medicine Senior Associate Dean of Administration and Finance

Supervision Exercised
The DFA directly supervises Center administrative staff including daily administrative support, pre- and post-award grant support teams, and dedicated programmatic staff

Examples of Work Performed

  • Oversee and direct all Center fiscal, human resources, administrative and operational activities  
  • Regularly review Center financial statements and ensure fiscal viability
  • Facilitate fiscal and financial planning and financial analysis, as needed
  • Ensure compliance with compensation models, practices, regulations and policies
  • Partner, collaborate, and provide direction to internal and external stakeholders and partners on financial management, administration, and operations
  • Monitor and manage faculty practice plan/activities for the Center 
  • Engage in development activities related to finding new or expanded funding sources and opportunities
  • Represent the Center to visitors, clients, media and the public and serve as a Public Relations liaison for constituents
  • Coordinate Center staff and efforts to recruit a diverse set of students, postdoctoral researchers, staff, and faculty to the Center and School and build a thriving community in service of the Center’s mission
  • Proactively identify opportunities for operational improvement, identify and evaluate potential solutions. and manage projects to improve operations

QualificationsMinimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, business administration, finance, healthcare administration, or a directly related field from an accredited college or university
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
  • The position requires extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience at the management level, including three years of professional management experience that must have included fiscal management responsibilities
  • Must have fiscal management experience in the University of Colorado system
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business, business administration, finance, healthcare administration, or a directly related field
  • Five or more years of professional and fiscal management experience
  • Research administration experience including grant support
  • Business development experience
  • Experience with business operations and automation tools and systems
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, Schools, Department Directors, Administrators, managers, hospital system management, and CU Medicine
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, diversified financial management skills
  • Ability to manage funds effectively, from a variety of sources
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply, accepted theories, practices and principles of general management and administration, and possess sufficient advanced knowledge of the workings of an academic health campus to apply these general principles thereto
  • Ability to communicate effectively in brief, focused and well organized oral and written presentations
  • Ability to establish work priorities and provide follow through to insure completion of activities, both personally and in subordinates
  • Ability to plan and organize, implement, coordinate and improve financial and administrative activities, as they apply to the complex workings of the Center 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
