The Director of Industry and Foundation Relations for Pharmaceutical Sciences (the Director) is a key member of an energetic team that supports the mission and priorities of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (the School). The Director’s core responsibility is to plan, create, develop and facilitate innovative, productive and strategic relationships and partnerships between the School and/or the Eshelman Institute for Innovation (EII), and strategically targeted corporations, corporate foundations, foundations and industry organizations within the U.S. and internationally. The Director will execute partnership agreements and manage the School’s ongoing relationships with these organizations, increase the total partnered-program portfolio for the School and work collaboratively with other University officials involved in commercialization and economic development. The Director will be responsible for achieving goals, both financial and non-financial, based on the number, size and value of industry and foundation partnerships with the School. This position plays a critical role in the School’s strategic fundraising efforts.
The Director will maintain productive relationships and encourage collaboration with School divisions, centers, laboratories and faculty, as well as identify new opportunities for commercial/School/EII interaction and collaboration. Specific emphasis will be placed on identifying and cultivating biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, as well as health care institutions, in the Research Triangle Park and beyond. In all endeavors, the Director will coordinate with the School’s Office of Advancement, the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations within the University Development Office (the UDO), and with School and EII leadership responsible for the development and commercialization of intellectual property.
The director will be reporting jointly to the School’s Associate Dean of Advancement and the UDO Associate Vice Chancellor for Corporate and Foundation Relations. The Director will maintain office spaces in both the School and the UDO.Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree preferred. Degree in science or health-related field preferred.Qualifications and Experience:
- Five or more years of experience in corporate and foundation relations, or related academic experience.
- Demonstrated success in setting and achieving development goals.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstration of mastery of the basic principles and techniques of successful relationship building as it pertains to the identification, solicitation and support of corporate partners in an academic setting.
- Ability to interact effectively in a comprehensive research university setting.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty researchers and teams, administrators and volunteers.
- Willingness to travel extensively, a strong drive to be successful, a high energy level and integrity/sincerity.
