Responsible for the planning, management, implementation, and evaluation of laboratory series; designs and develops experimental protocols and interprets scientific experiments for the purpose of presentation and performance as learning techniques.

Identifies instructional equipment needed, and instructs others in proper and safe use and care of instruments, equipment, and facilities. Operates, maintains, and repairs equipment and instruments in assigned teaching laboratories. Evaluates current lab content and infrastructure to recommend new or additional equipment, supplies, and instruments to update and advance course delivery.

Responsible for laboratory safety and quality control; establishes operational policy for safety compliance and consults with administration, instructional faculty, and the departmental Laboratory Safety Manager concerning modifications of experiments, equipment, and chemicals to ensure compliance with EH&S/OSHA safety standards. Participates in mandatory lab safety training and supervises the preparation, analysis, testing, and disposal of chemical solutions and lab materials. Monitors laboratory activities and works with instructional employees to ensure the safe handling, use, and disposal of lab materials and equipment.

Supervises and oversees training of graduate teaching assistants as well as additional OPS employees. Responsible for the daily operation of assigned lecture series. Determines inventory levels required and works with appropriate staff to maintain adequate supplies. Responsible for proper storage of chemical inventory and equipment maintenance. Prepares reports as requested concerning lab enrollment, chemical locker set-ups, cost of experiments, capital equipment needs, inventories, etc. Other duties related to the upkeep of chemical laboratories as necessary.Qualifications Bachelor's degree and two years experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years. Note: High education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.

Strong organizational and inventory maintenance skills.

Laboratory experience and knowledge of the function and maintenance of basic scientific laboratory equipment including Analytical Balances, pH Meters and UV/VIS Spectrometers, etc.

Knowledge of general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry.Preferred College coursework and laboratory experience in General, Organic, and Biochemistry is preferred.Anticipated Salary Range Mid to high $30,000s, commensurate with experience.Pay Plan This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.Schedule If not otherwise specified, schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.Criminal Background Check This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
