Facilities Services is a unit in the Campus Operations Division, which is a part of a broad, diverse division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. East Carolina University is the third largest university in the University of North Carolina system with approximately 28,000 full-time students and a staff of approximately 6,000. The university is comprised of 6.2 million square feet of facilities located on 1319 acres with $1.49 billion in physical assets. * This includes the Main, Health Sciences, West Research Campuses, and satellite locations associated with university programs. Facilities Services has an annual budget in excess of $30 million and employs over 400 full-time employees. Major functions include facilities maintenance and housekeeping services. Facilities Services primary purpose is to plan and perform corrective and preventive maintenance functions on all building structures and equipment and utility infrastructure. Corrective maintenance returns equipment to optimal design performance after failure or upon degradation from age, adverse operation conditions, etc. Preventive maintenance minimizes equipment failures and reduces corrective maintenance.Job Duties :
This position is open to ECU employees only.
The position will be responsible for managing/supervision of the following trades and their associated work in all HSC buildings and related outlying clinical facilities: Carpentry, Masonry, Painting, Roofing and Locksmith. This position and trades supervised by this position provide maintenance and oversight of components that are critical to student, faculty and staff safety as well as their learning/working environment. Some of these components include but are not limited to: audits, inspections and repairs related to compliance with ADA standards for facilities and access to facilities, inspection and repair of interior and exterior walking surfaces (carpet, VCT, ceramic tile, sidewalks, etc.), inspection and repair of interior and exterior building conditions (roofing assemblies, wall structures/finishes, lay-in/hard ceilings, windows, etc.), and inspection and repair of interior and exterior doors and associated hardware (critical component of safety and security). The position will advise department heads and staff concerning campus wide Building Trades projects and work with professional engineers and designers on HSC related projects to ensure project designs function with existing systems and established building standards on campus.Minimum Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in trade(s) areas assigned; or equivalent combination of training and experience.License or Certification required by statute or regulation:
NonePreferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
A minimum of five years of experience in Building Trades divisions.
Good working knowledge of NC Building Codes, ADA Standards, Building Envelope systems and Locksmith standards (specific knowledge of Corbin Russwin tiered keying system, LCN and Stanley door hardware).
Associates Degree in Building Construction Technology or related.
Completed APPA’s Supervisor Toolkit as well as OHA -10hr training.License or Certification required by the Department:
