The Department of Biology (www.ecu.edu/biology) is a comprehensive department that emphasizes an integrative approach to the study of life sciences. We offer undergraduate majors in Biology and Biochemistry and graduate opportunities at both the M.S. and Ph.D. levels.

Job Duties :

The Vance-Chalcraft Lab studies interventions to improve the quality of undergraduate education in Biology. The lab currently has several ongoing projects of interventions and needs someone to help track all of the projects, handle program logistics, and organize data.

We seek a research associate to facilitate our work. This is a temporary position lasting approximately six months. The research associate’s responsibilities will include supporting logistics for the PRIMER Transfer Student Success program in Biology, the USE Cit Sci research coordination network, our graduate teaching assistant training programs, the X-labs reform program, and other lab projects. In addition, the research associate will help organize and manage the data being generated by these projects, facilitate student training on human subjects research, and organize student workers. Lastly, it is expected that this research associate will take on some duties associated with lab management including helping to order lab supplies, assuring compliance with lab regulations, and maintaining the lab in clean and functioning order. The successful research associate will also be encouraged to take on additional roles associated with statistical analysis of data, and preparation of manuscripts for publication. We seek someone who has the ability to drive state-owned vehicles and be attentive to details.

Minimum Education/Experience :

B.S. degree in biology, ecology, biology education, educational research, or similar fields.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

Familiarity with biology education research, experience analyzing data, and writing manuscripts. Independent self-starter who is excited to learn new skills and has the ability to problem shoot challenges.
