Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Successful completion of an appropriate training course, Medical Office Assistant preferred, Related clinical experience in patient care.

Position Summary:

The Clinic Assistant provides direct supportive patient care to patients at University Health Center under the direction of nurses and clinicians. The Clinic Assistant obtains chief complaint, brief history, appropriate vital signs, current medications and allergies. The Clinic Assistant documents patient information clearly and accurately using the electronic health record system. The Clinic Assistant recognizes abnormal findings and urgent problems and seek appropriate assistance from nurse or
clinician, anticipates special supplies and equipment required for the visit, assist clinicians with exams and treatments including sterile procedures, sterilizes instruments, operates the autoclave, and maintains exam room equipment and supplies.
The Clinic Assistant works closely with and collaborates with nurses, clinicians, patients, and families to support the clinic team. The Clinic Assistant reports to and is directly supervised by the Clinic Manager.
This is a 10-month position.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Provides care to patients, and directly assists clinicians in treating patients.
Obtains chief complaint, brief history, appropriate vital signs, current medications, and allergies. Documents patient information clearly and accurately. Recognizes abnormal findings and urgent problems and seeks appropriate assistance. Anticipates special supplies and equipment required for visit. Provides culturally sensitive age-specific care and maintains confidentiality of patient’s information.

Takes clinical photographs to add to PnC documentation. Assists clinician with exam and treatments, including sterile procedures and chaperoning. Reemphasizes patient education within level of expertise. Ensures patient and staff are always safe. Completes all assignments and procedures in a safe and efficient manner with minimal supervision.

Maintains clinic supplies, equipment, and exam rooms. Maintain clean and stocked exam and procedure rooms. Maintains supply and utility rooms, monitors equipment, tanks, and solutions. Orders linen and general clinic supplies as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Provides supporting clerical functions as needed to facilitate patient flow. Schedules appointments accurately and appropriately based on patient symptoms, eligibility, and age-specific needs. Receives patients and others who present in the clinic for appointments, care, or special needs or services. Verifies correct insurance and contact information in PnC at check-in and check-out in the clinic. Provides effective telephone coverage for incoming calls to the clinic. Provides clerical and secretarial support for the clinic functions.

Understands infection prevention responsibilities in patient care and in clinic support functions. Cleans instruments and trays and prepares for autoclave. Operates autoclave per policy and maintains accurate documentation. Checks all sterile instruments for inventory, expiration date, and integrity of package. Repackages and sterilizes instruments not meeting standards.
