    The Area Coordinator (AC) is a live-in, full-time professional responsible for the development and promotion of community engagement and residential education at Lynn University. This individual will provide leadership and support for all initiatives, services, and efforts offered by the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Efforts will support the mission of the University and the goals of the Division of Student Affairs. This individual will work closely with students, parents, and all stakeholders to foster a positive residential living community. This is a 12-month, full time, live-in position with on-call responsibilities.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      Serve as the primary administrator for assigned residential facilities, including management of facility, community building, housing assignments, staff supervision, and student advocacy and support.Provide direct supervision, evaluation, and support to para-professional Community Advisors (CAs) and Resident Assistants (RAs). Hold CAs and RAs accountable with deadlines for all position requirements such as weekly reports, programming requirements/paperwork, bulletin boards, door decorations, and postings.Serve as an advisor to the entire staff.Hold weekly individual meetings with CAs and RAs assigned to residential facilities of responsibility.Effectively facilitate groups in a variety of settings, lead effective weekly staff meetings, give clear direction, and motivate staff to develop to the best of their ability. Conduct staff appraisals twice a year in addition to giving ongoing feedback that is timely and appropriate. Administer staff training during fall and spring semesters and assess needs of staff continuously to provide adequate training on an ongoing basis.Develop and facilitate community development models in your area to meet the needs and interests of the residents, and that also encourages residential involvement.Document all inappropriate behavior and provide constructive feedback in a timely manner.Serve as a conduct review officer for alleged violations of University policy and the Code of Conduct as assigned by the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards. Follow through with all aspects of the conduct review process for each case assigned. Serve in the departmental on-call rotation and respond as appropriate. Maintain a high level of awareness regarding the facilities of the assigned residence hall/area, including submitting and following up on work orders, communicating building updates to students and overseeing the damage process for the residence hall/area and maintaining accurate records.Assist with routine safety procedures including fire drills, health and safety checks, and hurricane preparedness. Report and address issues associated with these to direct supervisor. Identify, provide assistance, and follow-up with residents who have personal, academic and/or social issues or concerns. Address behavioral concerns as well as roommate conflicts in a timely and effective manner and provide leadership and support in this area.Serve as a University "First Responder" for crisis situations, requiring availability and presence during hurricanes and other disasters as identified by the University.

As such, this individual will maintain a high level of professionalism including, but not limited to behavior, attire, and representation of self and the University at all times. Additionally, it is expected that this team member:

      Follow-through with all responsibilities and communications in a timely manner.Keep accurate records of events, programs, budgets, evaluations, etc.Complete the appropriate assessments of programs and functions.Develop appropriate, professional relationships with students and colleagues (internal and external).Work collaboratively with all areas of the University and serve as a resource for the campus community.Maintain appropriate boundaries with students.Embrace an open-door approach to communicating with students to assist with ideas, issues, and concerns relating to Student Affairs, individual development, and programs/services.
    Other:

      This position requires evening and weekend hours to fulfill position responsibilities.This position is a live-on position within a residential facility on campus.This position has on-call responsibilities that require visibility and presence on campus for immediate response.Maintain professional conduct and ethical behavior at all times.Assist with departmental assessment of services, programs, and effectiveness.Maintain and establish policies and procedures for the department.Assist with campus-wide programming efforts as needed, as well as major divisional and institutional initiatives.Serve on University committees and task forces.
    • Administer all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • An earned master's degree in higher education, or equivalent, from an accredited institution.
    • Direct practical experience within the field of housing and residence life within an institution of higher education.
    • Strong relationship building skills, working with individuals of diverse communities and cultures.
    • A firm understanding and knowledge of student development theory.
    • Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • A demonstrated passion for developing students in the higher education setting.
    • Ability to effectively resolve conflict and manage crisis and emergency situations as well as an ability to foster a cooperative environment.
    • Ability to promote collaboration, team work, and involve stakeholders in the decision making process.
