Primary Function:

Laboratory operations coordinator manages workflow of specimens throughout the laboratory process, from intake to reporting results. Proficiency in typing , organizing files, and working within computer based programs are essential. Written and oral communication with the Technical Director, leadership, and ordering physicians is constant throughout the workday and imperative for lab success.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Primarily responsible for the receipt, verification, and labeling for each specimen submitted into the laboratory
  • Perform clerical functions of the laboratory including data entry, report retrieval, faxing and state reporting, and billing
  • Clear and professional communication to ordering personnel and couriers
  • Work with the technical supervisor to develop techniques that will increase productivity and strengthen quality assurance
  • Uphold client satisfaction and maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Follow up with clients on issues; consistently provide excellent customer service in person, via email, and on the telephone
  • Work with IT or others to maintain a working and function patient portal, upto date website of test menu and laboratory testing information, and other IT needs as they arise
  • Keep track of inventory and work with purchasing managers to keep the laboratory stocked with essential consumables reagents

Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.

BA/BS

Experience:

Laboratory/Office operations experience
Previous experience in a clinical laboratory is a plus , but not required.

Job Related Skills:

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Word and Excel with basic operation – working with macros a plus
  • Work with web-based programs to keep the lab website upto date, as well as the ability to learn and understand the software for the Laboratory Information System (LIS), for high volume patient data entry.

Licenses/Certification:

  • HIPAA certified (training available)
  • MT/MLT preferred, but not required

This position receives general supervision. Broad instructions are provided and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments. Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by supervisor after completion.
