Financial Aid Advisor

Responsibilities:

Provides information, advice and assistance regarding various types of Federal and State financial aid.

Analyzes student’s applications and determines eligibility for financial aid.

Requests additional documents; verifies information; awards aid; processes award or denial letters and checks for satisfactory academic progress.

Determines eligibility and selects students for state grant programs.

Performs data entry on initial applications and corrections to transmit via Banner software.

Processes originations and disbursements of students receiving Federal financial aid.

Coordinates all facets of awarding campus scholarships.

Supervises student workers and maintains student worker records.

Responsible for community outreach and updates materials for in-office and public consumption.

Responsible for monitoring IFAP for comment code updates and Department of Education guidelines.

Maintains Policy and Procedure manual.

Submits FAQ’s and Financial Aid updates to ensure website is current.

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Must have five or more years’ experience working in Financial Aid. Experience with Banner automated systems related to financial aid management required.

Knowledge of computerized electronic processes in the delivery of financial aid through Banner. Knowledge of federal and state financial assistance regulations; Must be a multi-task individual that can work within deadlines. A high degree of written and spoken communications skills are required. Must be capable of working harmoniously with a diverse population. This is a security sensitive position. Must comply with established College standards and policies.
This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.217.
