Description of primary duties and responsibilities::

Technical Knowledge:
Perform general carpentry work in construction, repair or alteration of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, screens, ceiling tile, closures, sheet rock, installing, hanging, assembling, disassembling, modifying and adjusting items related to carpentry. Cut and trim lumber to size. Set-up and operate power tools, such as table saw, radial arm saw, and drill press. Ability to perform basic carpentry tasks. Ability to use basic carpentry tool, portable, bench, floor models, hammers, screw drivers, nails, handsaw, and other related tools.

Problem Solving:
Identifies problem and gathers information from customer to determine the magnitude of the problem. Access and analyze the problem to determine the resources and methods available to address the problem. Coordinates with Supervisors and others if necessary to determine the appropriate action. Contributes constructive ideas even when there are several conflicting priorities. Troubleshooting may involve conferring with the Locksmith to identify the cause of the problem.

Attention to Detail:
Work projects are initiated through the work order system. This work order provides the employee with a complete description of the requestor’s needs. The employee must understand the requestor needs and then gather the proper tolls, materials, and equipment to complete the job. The employee may need to read the manual, contact the vendor or sometimes contract the job out. Once the work is completed, document all work activities. Check work to make sure all needs of the requestor have been filled.

Work Coordination:
Some projects may have obstacles. This position sets the objectives for getting the tasks completed (which may involve multi-tasking and seeking input from peers, supervisors, and colleagues). This position functions as liaison for the department and contractors. Al contract work must be reviewed to ensure functionality and usability. By reviewing the work initially, employee ensures future problems are anticipated and obstacles are resolved. In addition, employee stays on course as policies and procedures change suddenly. The employee must work well under pressure; not easily deterred from the course of duty.

Communication:
This position very tactfully clarifies any misconception about directives, instructions that clients may have and redirect them back to the goal set by key management. Employee listens and receives mutual understanding and provides clarification.

Checks operation of safety equipment regularly.
Teaches new employees the safe way to do the job and carry out tasks.
Demonstrates commitment to provide a safe work place for employees.
Incorporates accident prevention measures in all activities.
Enforces adopted employee safety and health rules.

Client/Customer Service:
Employee greets clients promptly, listens carefully; offer relevant information; acts on a clear course of action; asks questions to ensure request is clear and satisfaction has been accomplished. Greets vendors, contractors professionally and courteously. Listens to and understands the customer, anticipating customer needs and giving priority to customer satisfaction.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements::

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Knowledge skills and abilities::

Competencies:
Apply knowledge and skills to build and repair wood and related structures. Perform other duties related and incidental to the carpentry trade.

Preferred Qualifications::

Four years of progressive experience in the construction and remodeling of wooden structures, furniture repairs.
