Description of primary duties and responsibilities::

Implement educational interventions to low-income/first-generation students enrolled at FSU to increase retention and graduation rates; provide coaching sessions with students one-on-one and in a small group to support student success. Develop and conduct workshops with college students (i.e., study skills, test-taking skills, note-taking skills, student success software, etc.). Identify, recruit, and retain students in the program. Complete individual needs assessments and develop individual academic plans. Track services and monitor satisfactory academic progress. Administer pre and post-tests. Submit monthly reports/quarterly reports.

Description of Work Continued::

Assistantships may be awarded only to graduate students who are admitted in a graduate program leading to a graduate degree and are enrolled in a minimum of six (6) semester hours.

A graduate assistant will work no more than twenty (20) hours per week during the academic year when the University is in session.

A student may not receive an assistantship for more than six (6) semesters.

A student may not hold more than one assistantship or work more than twenty 20 hours per week.

A full time state employee may not hold a graduate assistantship.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements::

Must be enrolled in graduate school and have experience working with high school and/or college students.

Knowledge skills and abilities::

Students must have a strong undergraduate record (a minimum GPA of 3.0 is recommended.)
• Students must be enrolled at Fayetteville State University, in good academic standing, and working toward a degree.
• Students must be willing to work collaboratively on projects contributing to the mission and goals of Fayetteville State University.
• Students must have strong communication and organizational skills.
• Students must be willing to assist with general responsibilities within the unit or office, such as taking minutes for committee meetings, developing posters, brochures, programs, and other responsibilities as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications::

Prefer a degree in social work, counseling, education, sociology, psychology, social sciences, or related field from an accredited college/university. Prefer experience as an advisor, counselor, peer leader, resident assistant, mentor, and/or teacher helpful.
