Position Summary

MSU invites applicants for a shared position between the College of Social Science and Outreach and Engagement. The Study of Active Neighborhoods in Detroit (StAND) at Michigan State University and the MSU Detroit Center (University Outreach and Engagement) are seeking a full-time coordinator. This position will work 50% on project logistics and 50% on MSU Detroit Center facility management work. Responsibilities include (1) liaising with the field team in Detroit and the MSU-based team; (2) managing logistics related to field team including vehicles, staff time in the field, and working in teams; (3) interacting with students and faculty/staff/managers to assist with office needs; (4) maintaining event schedules; (5) compile records, monitor accounts, and maintain bookkeeping; (6) updating content on social media and managing website presence; and (6) providing staff support to facility coordinator and other building units, as needed. The position will begin as early as December 1, 2020 and will continue annually, depending on funding availability and performance. The position will include a competitive salary and benefits.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to a year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in typing, spreadsheet software and word processing; may require experience as a Cashier/Teller and in bookkeeping/accounting procedures or knowledge of technical or medical terminology and/or technical training related to the field of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills; skills in project logistics; ability to work independently to meet deadlines and troubleshoot issues as they arise. Knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and computer software skills including word processing, familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Zoom, email, and social media apps.

Valid vehicle operator's license.

Other skills and physical abilities to perform the duties of this job: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. May require standing and walking.
