Position Summary

The MSU COVID19 Early Detection Program is seeking enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Technicians to support the work of the testing lab. The primary duties involve high throughput RNA isolation for subsequent qPCR SARS COV2 detection. Additionally, laboratory technicians will train and oversee the laboratory aide employees in sample intake and processing, and prepare RNA isolation kits for the RNA isolation. Some time will also be spent in the kit assembly workstation assembling the saliva collection kits.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in science or two-year associate's degree program in Applied Science Medical Laboratory Technician including a six-month internship at an approved institution laboratory; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic laboratory techniques; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job may require specialty certifications, approvals, or training.

Desired Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or microbiology.
