Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.

Unit Position Summary

An hourly technician position is available in the lab of Dr. Kim Scribner in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University. The successful applicant will join a collaborative team of researchers conducting genotyping and sequence analysis of fish populations in Michigan. Duties include high throughput extraction of DNA, SNP and microsatellite genotyping, Sanger sequence analysis, data base management and curation of data. The successful applicant would also assist with data analysis. This is a temporary position for up to 8 months. Start date for this position is on or before 1/4/2021.

Desired Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

B.S. in Biology, Natural Resources or related field, knowledge of basic skills in molecular laboratory protocol and use of word processing and data base management software.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge in basic molecular genetics laboratory techniques including DNA extraction, PCR, genotyping, Sanger sequencing, and next generation sequencing. Quantitative skills including manipulation of sequence and genotype data and data base management experience.
