Position Summary

Schedules appointments and registers and greets patients; answers phone and takes messages; prepares charts; verifies insurance and obtains authorizations; schedules and coordinates tests; retrieves and distributes results to physicians; prepares supplies and clean examination rooms; orders supplies if necessary; records patient history; takes vital signs, and performs and assists with procedures, examinations, and treatments; performs routine health assessments.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require experience in the use word processing and database software, a specified medical course such as Nurse Health Aid and Phlebotomy, or Medical Billing and Medical Terminology experience. May require knowledge of electronic medical record and patient scheduling systems.

Requires certification as a medical assistant.

Work hours are typically 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., but can vary as necessary to accommodate clinic hours

Summary of Health Risks

Exposure to human blood, serum, tissue and other body fluids; and materials covered under Universal Precautions; TB risk or work within three (3) feet of patients in a health care setting; wear a respirator and compliance with influenza policy. Covid precautions.
