MSU St. Andrews invites applications for a fixed-term Outreach Specialist position. MSU St. Andrews is a research and education center located in Midland, Michigan. It hosts 1) extramurally supported research projects, 2) science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) noncredit education programs for students and families, and 3) professional development opportunities for teachers in the greater Midland area.
The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to providing outstanding programming in STEAM disciplines to K-12 students, teachers, and families. The position responsibilities will include mentoring high school fellowship students in non-credit research during the center’s summer internship program. The successful candidate will also engage with local K-12 schools, after school clubs, and K-12 teachers to lead non-credit STEAM workshops and activities throughout the year. The successful applicant will facilitate the offering of STEAM summer camps and activities for K-12 students, and assist with developing and holding family events at the center throughout the year, such as Astronomy Nights. Another element of this position will be assisting faculty in the unit with STEM research projects. This position will also require the individual to identify opportunities for extramural funding and to participate in writing proposals to fund ongoing research and outreach activities. Travel in the Midland area may be required.
The successful applicant will work in a STEM facility with active research laboratories. Health risks may include exposure to chemicals and power machinery. The protection of minor outreach program participants' health and safety will be a responsibility of this position. Successful candidates will be required to undertake a variety of reoccurring health and safety training provided by the MSU Environmental Health and Safety unit.
This position is fixed term with an initial end date of one year from the date of hire, with the possibility of renewal based on mutual agreement and satisfactory performance. The position requires the completion of an annual background check.Equal Employment Opportunity Statement

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field such as chemistry, mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, biology, or a related field, or a liberal arts degree; one to two years of experience with STEAM research or outreach activities; excellent communication skills; ability to relate complex topics to diverse audiences; proven commitment to K-12 student success.
