Position Summary

The research associate (postdoctoral researcher) will work on the NIH/NIDCD-funded project, “Cognitive and Biological Mechanisms in Pediatric Voice Therapy”. This project investigates the influence of developmental cognitive and physical factors on children’s ability to acquire a therapeutic voicing pattern in “resonant voice” therapy; and on the tissue’s biological response to behavioral therapy (lesion size). The candidate will contribute to the development of image-processing methods and software that will be used for obtaining kinematic measures of the vibration of the vocal folds from high-speed videoendoscopy. These measures are related to the physiological development of the laryngeal tissues. The fellow will be trained in the responsible conduct of research and in the methodologies of different physiological approaches used in the lab. The candidate will be involved in preparing written/oral presentations for journal publications and conferences and are expected to develop their independent programmatic line of research.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Communication Sciences and Disorders, or

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have their Ph.D. degree (can be ABD) in communication sciences and disorders, or related disciplines, with an emphasis on voice science and voice disorders. A background in signal/image processing is also necessary due to the nature of the project. The applicant must also show evidence of scholarly productivity in the form of journal articles, conference presentations.

Desired Qualifications

Prior experience in high-speed videoendoscopy data analysis is desirable.
