Life Science Technician 2🔍School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United States📁Research📅Nov 18, 2020 Post Date📅87856 Requisition #Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Technician 2 to work under the supervision of Michael S. Kapiloff, MD, PhD, a faculty member in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Medicine (Cardiovascular Medicine) and the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute. The Kapiloff laboratory is heavily invested in small rodent, in vivo cardiac physiology research, both with regards to the study of basic cardiac signal transduction mechanisms and the development of novel heart failure therapeutics. We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated small animal researcher who will provide core services supporting the research of the Kapiloff laboratory, including echocardiography and the induction of cardiac disease by survival surgeries such as transverse aortic constriction or coronary ligation in mice and rats. Duties will include maintenance of the lab’s genetically modified mouse colony and related activities. While the ideal candidate will have experience in cardiovascular physiology, a candidate with other small rodent research experience may be given the opportunity to learn the necessary skills through on-the-job training.

This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in small rodent research, including mouse colony maintenance and survival surgeries required. The ideal candidate will have experience in echocardiography, transverse aortic constriction, and coronary artery ligation survival surgery.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Two years of laboratory experience or two years of college coursework in the scientific discipline a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

Work at the Life Science Technician II level requires experience and ability beyond that required for the Life Science Technician I, including increased technical skills and problem-solving abilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

• Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.
• Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
• Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 pounds.
• Rarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 pounds.
• Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
• Position may require repetitive motion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work occurs in a research laboratory environment. Depending on research, may work in the vicinity of animals, chemicals, gasses, or hazardous materials. Expected to follow all safety requirements and procedures including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.

Additional and/or Unusual WORKING CONDITIONS:
Position includes extended periods of time in animal facility working with small rodents.
